Events

Below is the general itinerary for Microcosm 2010.  Further details regarding each specific event can be found by clicking on the respective event link in the sidebar on the left.

 

DAY 1 (Friday, Sept 3)

Field Trip
Field trip to the base of Mt. Index in the Skykomish River gorge to look for native herpetofauna.  All participants will be back in time for the keynote speakers that evening.  Click HERE to reserve your spot on the trip.
 
 
Herpetological Lecture Series
Friday evening at 7:00 pm will be a special speaker series featuring Mark Pepper and John E. Simmons.  Doors will open and drinks will be available at 6:00 pm.
 
 

DAY 2 (Saturday, Sept 4)

Vendor Show
From 10am - 4pm on Saturday will be a "glass box" show and sale.  Vendors and participants can expect to encounter and purchase: 
  • Captive-bred and raised animals suited to live in naturalistic enclosures (amphibians, geckos, freshwater fish, anoles, aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates, etc.)

  • Plants that can be cultured in "glass box" conditions (from terrariums to greenhouses) including bromeliads, orchids, carnivorous plants, gesnariads, aquatic plants, ferns, bryophytes, etc.

  • Custom-made glass enclosures for the captive culture of various plant and animal species.

  • Natural history artwork such as illustrations, literature, botanical prints, etc
 
 
Lectures & Workshops
Throughout the vendor show on Saturday there will be a handful of lectures which are free for all in attendance.  A schedule of current speakers and lecture times can be found HERE.
 
 
Fundraising Auction
At 4:00 pm, Microcosm will close down with a live auction benefitting Tree Walkers International and its amphibian conservation programs.  All auction items are donated by event partners and vendors.
